Celebrate With The Pacific Rim Whale Festival
Each spring the entire North American population of Pacific Grey Whales migrate
along the west coast of Vancouver Island, B.C. An estimated 22,000 grey whales
make the journey from Mexican Baja Peninsula along the west coast to their summer
feeding grounds in the Bering and Chukchi Seas near the Arctic.
Travelling close to the shoreline, the whales provide excellent
viewing opportunities from the rocky headlands along the coast between Ucluelet
and Tofino. During the Pacific Rim Whale Festival, free public viewing stations
are available at Amphitrite Point Lighthouse in Ucluelet and at the Wickaninnish
Centre in the Pacific Rim National Park. Get even closer to these magnificient
animals with a whale watching excurion with local charter boats or floatplanes
from Ucluelet or Tofino.
The hosting villages of Tofino and Ucluelet, along with the Pacific
Rim National Park Reserve look forward to welcoming you every March! |
