More About the Performers:

Although they call Vancouver Island home, these gifted song-crafters live mostly on the road, performing to an ever-widening fan base. They are skilled & versatile musicians; considered by their peers to be in the "journeyman" class of their trade.

Saskia hails from the Netherlands and Darrel was born on the Great Plains, so prairie and coastal cultures runs through their veins. They write about Canadian life & culture; stories of Louis Riel, war brides, journeys across the sea, mining towns, dance girls, voyageurs & rodeos; all set to intriguing melodies and backed by some of Canada's finest musicians.

They have toured extensively with Gary Fjellgaard for the last 10 years, performed with Valdy, Nathan Tinkham, and have notables like Daniel Powter, Darby Mills, Steve Dawson, Ken Hamm, Bill Hicks, Nathan Tinkham and Nolan Murray appearing on their 9 CD's. They were awarded Top Folk /Roots Album in Holland, nominated for Artist, Album, and Male Vocalist of the year by SCMA, received Top 5 People's choice awards, and remain perennial favorites on CBC, CKUA and Indie folk/roots charts in Europe and Community Radio Stations throughout Canada and the US.

The Pacific Rim Whale Festival is your local non-profit organization that seeks to inspire and educate visitors and residents alike, about our unique eco-marine habitat and the cultural diversity that our coastal villages have to offer. We are the largest Whale Festival celebration in the world, and we center the festivities around the migration of the grey whales off of our shores in Spring! This festival is funded and operated by the community, for the community – and like whales without water, we need you to stay afloat.

The 25^th Anniversary Pacific Rim Whale Festival came to a close this afternoon.  After nine days of culinary contests, sweet indulgences, parading, whale watching, dancing, martinis, creating, costuming, making music and making memories - the Ucluelet Community Centre filled with whale festers for the last time this year.

It was the wrap up ceremonies and community salmon barbeque sponsored in part my Creative Salmon.  Volunteers dished up mixed green salad, potato salad and juicy salmon, once again feeding a long line of hungry west coasters!

After years of providing the Pacific Rim Whale Festival with Traditional Cedar Weaving Workshops, Rose Wilson and family presented the Pacific Rim Whale Festival Society with the finished cedar woven hats.  Thank you so much!

Jamie's Whaling Station drew and called their winners for the Passport to Adventure Prize.  Most of the winners were out-of-towners that had returned home.  It is always good to see visitors participating fully in the Pacific Rim Whale Festival events and contests.

Then it was the moment we all have been waiting for.  Two beautiful, brand new Seaward Kayaks, constructed with recycled materials, have been on display at Black Rock Oceanfront Resort all week.  The winner is...Kat Sundquist from Tofino!  Congratulations Kat, you will enjoy these beautiful kayaks!

The Pacific Rim Whale Festival Society was also pleased to unveil the 2012 Poster Artwork by Alison Trenaim.

The afternoon continued as we shared in story, song, art, history and dance with First Nations dance group:  The Cowichan Valley Dancers.

Thank you to all of the volunteers in both Ucluelet and Tofino that made the 25^th Anniversary Pacific Rim Whale Festival a huge success.  All the events were well received and well attended and we literally could not have done it without you.
