More About the Performers:
Although they call Vancouver Island home, these gifted song-crafters live mostly on the road, performing to an ever-widening fan base. They are skilled & versatile musicians; considered by their peers to be in the “journeyman” class of their trade.
Saskia hails from the Netherlands and Darrel was born on the Great Plains, so prairie and coastal cultures runs through their veins. They write about Canadian life & culture; stories of Louis Riel, war brides, journeys across the sea, mining towns, dance girls, voyageurs & rodeos; all set to intriguing melodies and backed by some of Canada’s finest musicians.
They have toured extensively with Gary Fjellgaard for the last 10 years, performed with Valdy, Nathan Tinkham, and have notables like Daniel Powter, Darby Mills, Steve Dawson, Ken Hamm, Bill Hicks, Nathan Tinkham and Nolan Murray appearing on their 9 CD’s.
They were awarded Top Folk /Roots Album in Holland, nominated for Artist, Album, and Male Vocalist of the year by SCMA, received Top 5 People’s choice awards, and remain perennial favorites on CBC, CKUA and Indie folk/roots charts in Europe and Community Radio Stations throughout Canada and the US.

CHOWDER CHOWDOWN at the Ucluelet Community Centre
The event that is the talk of the Festival! Attendees come to sample the best of the Pacific Northwest from local Tofino and Ucluelet chefs! Gourmet secrets, mom & pop specials, traditional family recipes. All these recipes voted on by the attendees and local “celebrities” as judges. Featuring live music, specialty merchandise and a wonderful community feeling, this is an event like no other! Presented as a partnership between the District of Ucluelet Recreation Commission and Department and the Pacific Rim Whale Festival Society. The Event Sponsor of the Chowder Chowdown would get the benefit of supporting both organizations and exposure to this most popular event attended by approximately 600 chowder lovers.

BLACK ROCK RESORT presents BARNACLE BLUES CONCERT in Ucluelet
A fund-raising evening of music brought to you by Black Rock Resort. There are local opening acts and a headliner all with a Bluesy twist. Previous years we have hosted David Gogo & Jim Byrnes. There is a raffle-style auction and a live action with plenty of amazing prizes. The event includes gourmet appetizers by renowned local chefs and 2 drinks provided with each paid ticket. This is another of our “Can’t Miss Events” and is always well attended by over 130 guests. This superb event largely draws the 35 and older demographic. Blues music is uncomplicated music played with great passion and the Barnacle Blues is an uncomplicated event with a passionate following.
